About us

A mill and bakery from Brodski Stupnik

Milling wheat since 1990 and baking for our neighbours since 1999 – today in eight bakeries.

Our story

From a mill to eight bakeries.

Mlin i pekarnica Janković is the family business of Božo Janković from Brodski Stupnik, a village between Slavonski Brod and Nova Gradiška. It all began with the mill, built and started up in July 1990.

We opened our first bakery on 5 September 1999 at Ulica Petra Krešimira IV 5 in Slavonski Brod – until 2015 it baked the bread and pastries for all our town shops. In 2004 we added a building for bakery and pastry production next to the mill, and in September 2015 we opened production and a shop at Zagrebačka ulica 81.

Today we are a large team of bakers, pastry cooks, shop staff and drivers who make sure, early every working morning, that bread, pastries and cakes reach our eight bakeries fresh.

Master craftsman

Božo Janković, master baker.

Our owner Božo Janković passed the master craftsman exam and became a master baker in 2003. His diploma was issued by the Croatian Chamber of Trades and Crafts.

That know-how goes into our bread, pastries and cakes every day – from the mill to the counter.

The next generation

Emerik Janković, master baker.

In our family the trade passes from father to son. Božo’s son Emerik Janković passed the master craftsman exam on 9 October 2020 and became a master baker. His diploma was issued by the Croatian Chamber of Trades and Crafts in Zagreb on 30 October 2020.

Today two master bakers work in our bakery – father and son.

People and production

Behind every pastry is a shift that started before dawn.

Our main production is at the head office in Brodski Stupnik: the mill, bread, burek, pastries and traditional Slavonian poppy-seed and walnut rolls (makovnjača and orahnjača), with the cake kitchen and our administration and accounts upstairs. For the town shops we also bake at Zagrebačka 81 in Slavonski Brod.

Bakers work day and night shifts, drivers take fresh bakes out in our delivery vans, and shop staff greet the first customers early in the morning. On Sundays and holidays we rest – and so do our ovens.
